About Dr. Askins

Dr. Howard Askins, M.D., J.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist. Doctor Askins also works in forensics. His Pasadena, CA, practice encompasses a full range of hospital care and office-based services for adolescents, adults and seniors. Dr. Askins utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, including onsite psychological services, to ensure the most positive treatment outcomes.

Commissioner of the Los Angeles County Mental Health Commission since 1996, Dr. Askins is at the top of his field as Chief of Staff at a leading psychiatric hospital in the Los Angeles area CA. His administrative as well as practical psychiatric experience has allowed him to successfully lead a team of psychiatrists and provide expert guidance to businesses and government entities that retain him as a professional consultant. Most importantly, Dr. Askins’ patients benefit tremendously from his extensive and varied experience.

After receiving his undergraduate degree with honors from Brown University, Dr. Askins earned his medical doctorate (MD) and juris doctorate (JD) degrees from Harvard Medical School and Harvard Law School, respectively. He then completed both his internship and psychiatric residency at the UCLA Neuropsychiatry Institute, followed by a fellowship at the USC Institute of Psychiatry, Law and Behavioral Science.
