Addiction / Detox

Addiction often times goes hand-in-hand with what we call, Dual Diagnosis, which means that a patient may have one or more psychological or psychiatric diagnoses AND one or more drug and/or alcohol diagnoses. An example may be depression and alcoholism or bipolar disorder and cocaine abuse.  It is important to realize that a dual diagnosis patient can have a chemical dependency with more than one class of drugs. For example, a patient may be addicted to marijuana and cocaine while exhibiting symptoms of depression.

Treatment for a dual diagnosis patient is more complicated and requires a doctor who is a qualified and trained specialist in treating dual diagnosis and in treating addiction or drug abuse (Often referred to as “co-occurring disorders”). Dr. Askins has been treating this type of patient throughout his 25 year career and is well versed in managing and coordinating the patient's entire treatment protocol based on his thorough evaluation of that individual patient.

Please call Askins Psychiatry for any questions or concerns for a Dual Diagnosis or patient exhibiting addictive qualities.
