ASKINS PSYCHIATRY

Welcome to Askins Psychiatry, a medical group providing psychiatric care. Located in Pasadena, CA, Askins Psychiatry is led by the renowned Harvard-educated psychiatrist, Howard Askins, M.D., J.D. Commissioner of the Los Angeles County Mental Health Commission since 1996, Dr. Askins has been in practice for over 20+ years as an accomplished physician, forensic psychiatry expert and community leader. His practice is office-based though he does offer a spectrum of psychiatric, including treatment in the hospital.

Dr. Askins treats patients of all ages, from adolescents (ages 12-17), to adult men or women (ages 18-100+). Some may have mild mental health conditions that Dr. Askins can treat in his office while others may be severely mentally ill and/or chemically dependent and need to be treated in a psychiatric hospital. Dr. Askins and his medical group treat patients with conditions such as: bipolar disorder, depression, addiction, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, eating disorders, attention deficit disorder (ADHD) and brain trauma and/or injury. Services include everything from full psychiatric assessments for new patients to psychotherapy to long-term medication management for ongoing treatment.

While Dr. Askins enjoys caring for his patients in his office, he is also served a a Chief of Staff at a leading psychiatric hospital in the Los Angeles area. Oftentimes a patient will need stabilization or a higher level of care than can be provided in an office setting. Dr. Askins can provide and direct inpatient treatment – as well as partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment – so that patients receive a continuum of care both in and out of the hospital. This is a comfort to many of his patients as it offers a cohesive and seamless transition from the psychiatric hospital to outpatient office care under the skilled supervision of Dr. Askins.
